Conagra Relies on Influencers
to Spread Digital Coupons

ROSEMONT, ILL. - Conagra Brands (formerly
ConAgra Foods) shared a recipe for success
that involves digital coupons and social influencers. Alongside social media marketing
agency Collective Bias, the manufacturer presented a case study involving its Snack Pack
pudding brand at the Path to Purchase Expo
in September.
Conagra teamed with Collective Bias to find
ways to extend usage of its Snack Pack brand
at Walmart beyond the traditionally strong
back-to-school period for a one-month campaign during the 2015 winter holiday season,
said Conagra shopper marketing senior director Bob Waibel.
Based on insights that pointed to families
creating their own sweets at home and moms
turning to trusted networks for holiday snack
ideas, the campaign included digital coupons
with a mix of custom content created by social influencers, a landing page aggregating
related social media updates, targeted digital
media, exclusive recipes and a video that touts
the Snack Packs' availability at Walmart.
Collective Bias looked at its existing community of influencers to find those ideal for the
campaign, based on metrics such as type of
social media platform, demographics, location
and past performance, said Collective Bias CEO
and president Bill Sussman. The majority of
U.S. consumers have made a purchase based

on online posts, and social media influencer
content can reach market activation in onethird of the time needed for most other media,
Sussman said.
The activity focused on Snack Pack's existing
Mix-Ins program that features ways to arrange
food such as marshmallows and pretzels into
edible objects and characters such as snowmen on top of open Snack Packs. Influencers
referenced Walmart within their blog posts
and included links to discounts on Snack Packs
at the retailer available through Ibotta's shopper incentive mobile application.
Collective Bias uses mobile and also social
media for coupon distribution because of its
influential properties. The majority of consumers are more likely to make a purchase after
a social recommendation and many of them
give companies Facebook likes or Twitter follows to receive discounts or promotions, Sussman said. He also cited research from digital
advertising specialist Technorati that shows
47% of women and 33% of men use social media as the primary source for coupons.
When users began to organically share the
Snack Pack recipe social media updates, the
brand awareness increased. "If we make 100
pieces of creative that look totally different,
all of a sudden all these pieces of creative are
going to rise in the Google ranking," Sussman
said.
