In the August issue last year, we mentioned that Levi Strauss & Co. was partnering with
Google's "Project Jacquard," a textile that would have gesture-driven mobile interactivity. Now, Google has released more details, including the creation of a new denim
smart jacket called the Commuter because it's particularly designed for cyclists. The
idea being that cyclists weaving through city traffic can wear the Levi's smart coat and
take phone calls, adjust the volume on music, or check-in on navigational directions,
for example, just by hitting gesture-sensitive spots
on the coat like swiping a
sleeve. The coat is said to
be available next year and
will work with a special app
that the user would need to
download. No price is listed
yet. A smart tag at the edge
of a sleeve, like a button, can
be removed. It connects to
the "rider's" phone through
Bluetooth.

Adding a slightly different wrinkle to consumer surveys over mobile phones, Unomer, Palo Alto, California, has launched an
in-app market research platform that natively embeds a survey across several mobile
apps. The company works with brands to
create a survey and integrates it within the
flow of a shopping, travel, ticket or gaming app, the company says. Incentives can
be offered to users to increase participation and consumers are targeted based on
profile and behavioral data. Unomer tracks
