7 The mobile phone continues to be the bridge
between consumers and future shopping. At the
Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas,
this was evident in a few examples below, starting
with Samsung's Family Hub refrigerator, an
incredible at-home fridge that has a 21-inch, Wi-Fi
touchscreen on the door for ordering groceries,
creating shopping lists, saving recipes and
gathering weather, news and other information.
The screen works in concert with an app from
MasterCard called "Groceries by MasterCard"
that is preloaded into the fridge's technology
and consumers download to their phones. The
phone communicates with the fridge, enabling
you to keep an eye on what's in it remotely (there
are cameras inside the fridge that snap photos
every time a fridge door closes.) Wakefern/
ShopRite is experimenting with tying into the
app so consumers can buy groceries via fridge for
in-store pick up or delivery. MyWebGrocer will be
working with the app to add more retailers, and
.... incredible fridge.
FreshDirect will be a source for grocery delivery.
The MasterCard app is also programmed to learn about shopping habits within the fridge,
allowing for personalized suggestions as well as alerts when the fridge is out of something.
