HALL OF FAME PROFILE: BARRY ROBERTS

Let me get this straight: You were doing
CPG marketing for national brands, fulltime, while still a "junior" in college?
ROBERTS: Yes, and it was a terrific experience.
I was able to work on the Coca-Cola brand but
mainly on CC's club soft drinks, which was
the on-premise brand sold through public
houses. Before heading back for my final year
of school, I ended up as the brand manager
for club soft drinks, which got me a car for
heading out to pubs and down to the regions
that we had our sales people in.
After college, you started as a graduate
trainee with Brooke Bond Foods. What do

ny owned by Unilever, so I was able to go
through Unilever's excellent marketing training program and had the ability to work on
some very big brands including PG Tips, the
number one tea brand in the UK, as well as
Red Mountain coffee.
I then had overall responsibility for the
Fray Bentos food range. The brand had great
strength in convenience though it also was
perceived as being old fashioned, so our
biggest challenge was to modernize, which
included launching a range of pre-cooked
ready meals.
After that, I became a partner in HCA Integrated Marketing, a small marketing development and solutions company that worked
with clients such as Woolwich Bank, Courage
