and AR.

As previously reported, Walmart and
its Store No 8 subsidiary tested a service
in New York where shoppers could
receive personalized products to buy
via text message. That service officially
launched as its first portfolio company
called "Jetblack." The shopping service
is in Brooklyn and Manhattan, and
members who enroll in Jetblack get
products offered over text where they
can buy and have delivered the same or
next day. The service marries AI technology and Walmart expert buyers in categories such as home, health, parenting, fashion
and wellness to send recommended products to the Jetblack user. The idea being the
user lives in a busy, urban environment like Manhattan and products would range from a
customized Easter basket gift, a beauty cream or items needed for summer vacation.

Augmented reality is popular in the
beauty category, and Target is one of
the latest to leverage the technology
to give shoppers the ability to virtually
try on makeup like lipstick colors, cheek
colors and false eyelashes. Called the
Target Beauty Studio, the AR feature will
be on Target.com and inside the retailer's
mobile app. Target worked with Perfect Corp., San Jose, California, and its
YouCam Makeup AI and AR solution. The
solution facial maps shoppers' faces and
then gives them options to virtually try
on more than 100 makeup products. For
those consumers wanting to try it inside
stores, 10 retail locations will have the
service with digital screens in the beauty
department. Target is adding to this tech
with a new ability to text Target's beauty
department staff with questions on
products and beauty tips. Shoppers text
"BeautyChat" to the number 827492 and
engage in a conversation.

Propel, EBT

and SNAP.
Propel Inc., Brooklyn, New
York, was one of three finalists in the Wall Street Journal's
annual Financial Inclusion Challenge. The
company is the proud producer of the
Fresh EBT app that digitizes the EBT and
SNAP programs for people who receive
food stamp benefits. With the app, users
can check their balances and manage
shopping lists. Last year, Quotient Technology, Mountain View, California, began
working with Propel to give app users
access to digital coupons on the app from
retailers such as Jewel-Osco, Safeway
and Stop & Shop. Coupons are generated
through Quotient's RetailerIQ platform.
